Moonah Taste of the World
Glenorchy City Council’s annual multicultural FREE festival is on again at Benjafield Park in Moonah on Sunday 25 March 2018 from 11am – 4pm.
The eight year old festival is an initiative of Glenorchy City Council’s former Cultural Diversity Advisory Committee and aims to celebrate the rich multicultural heritage of the Glenorchy and Moonah areas.
The Nyrstar Eat Street and Eat Street Sweets features 30 stalls from business and community groups. Nineteen community groups are showcasing food from Tibet, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, The Phillipines and many more countries.
Mayor Kristie Johnston said it is delightful watching people coming to celebrate the wonderful cultural diversity in our municipality.
“This is an event that Glenorchy City Council is very proud of, particularly given the rich multicultural heritage in our city. What better way to celebrate than through fantastic food, music, performances and activities that we have at the festival.
“One of the goals in our Community Plan is to continue to welcome new arrivals from all countries and work with them to build on the multicultural traditions in our community through arts, food, music, entertainment and shared experiences.
“The event has grown enormously from that first festival in 2011, held in the Moonah car park. 2018 is the first year that community groups actually outnumber food stall businesses and we are happy and proud to be able to support our diverse communities to showcase their cuisine and culture to a wide audience.
“About 50 volunteers are at the event. I applaud them all for giving up their time to help us in so many diverse ways.
