The Tasmanian Association for the Gifted is pleased to announce its key event for Gifted Awareness Week 2018.
The theme for Gifted Awareness Week 2018 is Acceptance: Diversity and Equality and TAG’s key event is a seminar/workshop Fostering Differentiated Learning for the Gifted to be delivered in Hobart by Dr Manoj Chandra Handa on 22nd March.
Dr Chandra Handa has been recognised as one of the “Top 100 Most Influential People” in Sydney by “The Sydney Magazine” published in The Sydney Morning Herald. He was selected for the “Smart Teachers’ Research Award 2016” by The Teachers’ Guild of New South Wales for his doctoral research.
“TAG is excited to be able to offer this excellent opportunity from a high calibre presenter”, said the spokesperson for the Tasmanian Association for the Gifted, Allison Cornish.
“It is very important for every classroom teacher have skills in differentiating their teaching to cater for the average of 2-3 gifted students in every classroom”, added Ms Cornish.
“Gifted children come from all socio economic groups” said Ms Cornish. “Many are not recognised by their families or their schools. Contrary to popular belief, gifted children do not do well, no matter what, their needs need to be recognised, accepted and catered for”, continued Ms Cornish. “it is a matter of equity that gifted students are given the opportunity to reach their potential by being given learning materials appropriate to their needs”, she said.
The seminar/workshop Fostering Differentiated Learning for the Gifted will explore differentiating the five dimensions of curriculum—learning outcomes (why gifted students learn), concept-based content (what gifted students learn), student-centred processes (how gifted students learn), authentic products (how gifted students demonstrate what they have learnt), and rich learning environment (where gifted students learn).
