First Day … April

First Day … April … and a visit to Flinders Island …

And yes, there are still plenty of Killiecrankie Diamonds to be found especially at Diamond Gully at Killiecranke Bay, Tanners Bay and Mines Creek and a few Mareener shells.

Weather was not the usual for March which along with February is considered the most stable weather time to visit Flinders Island. The wind blew for most of the time we were there but on a few days the weather was gorgeous – and clouds too. If you want a real holiday away from tinseltown, to go a step back in time to another worldly place – Flinders Island is a must visit. This was my second trip and I will continue to return to this wondrous island with its magnificent coastline, mountains, granites and geology and birdlife.

Wild roaring 40’s weather provided ever changing land/sea scape views from the holiday house balcony of Mount Killiecrankie and the Bay

If you have not yet been to Flinders Island … On deck on the Matthew Flinders II sailing out past Waterhouse Island. Fortunately on the barge trip to and from Flinders Island we had good weather. The boat leaves on the high tide and takes 9 hours. Most people sit in their cars for the journey or go downstairs to the lounge to lie on the floor. We were lucky to have day time sailings both journeys and so had magnificent views of the islands and of muttonbird flocks flying before the barge.
