Australia now has a Space Agency.

Kim Peart was present at the launch of the Australian Space Agency, when attending the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide last September.

“The mood was very positive during the 5 days of the event, where the head of the European Space Agency ran a workshop on building a village on the Moon, and Elon Musk presented his vision for a city on Mars,” said Mr Peart.

“And Namira Salim made an extraordinary presentation on how space could be put to work to build peace on Earth.” ~

With the nuclear war drums beating over North Korea, and with both Russia and the United States building a new generation of nuclear weapons, if space can lead to peace, we need to look at that.

“The cover of this week’s Time magazine should scare the pants off all of us”, Mr Peart said (image included below).

In a recent article, Rising to the Challenge, Mr Peart explored how space development could lead to peace, a view he first explored in a 2006 document, Creating a Solar Civilization. ~

As part of the Tasmanian election, Mr Peart is calling on all candidates to look at coming to a meeting in Ross, to explore how space can work for Tasmania.

“I’m calling this event TasSpace, aiming to connect Tasmania to space,” Mr Peart said.

Mr Peart is prepared to travel to Hobart, Launceston, or Devonport, to explore space with candidates, parties and voters.

We need to think out of the box, like Robert Clifford of Incat, who builds ships in Tasmania and sends mechanics around the World to service his craft.

“Would Mr Clifford like to investigate a space related business project?” Mr Peart asks.

In Scottsdale high quality food is prepared for the Australian military, so why couldn’t we also engage in preparing high quality food products for consumption in space?

As space tourism takes off, there will be a need.

“Could we combine the booming tourist industry in Tasmania with space tourism, where people can prepare for space, as well as enjoy a space experience, as if in space, or on Mars,” Mr Peart wonders.

Using VR headsets, space experiences can be created in Tasmania, and there is paid work there.

“How can we connect to the global space industry?” asks Mr Peart.

Will Tasmania have a presence at the next International Astronautical congress being held in Bremen, Germany, next October?

By investing in space, we will be creating work and exciting careers.

Will we develop a space club for youth in Tasmania, which could be given support by the Australian Space Agency?

A space club could include flying drones, rocketry, robots, astronomy, and astronautics.

Space club activities, and space industry action in Tasmania, will inspire youth to pursue the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Let’s put our space cap on and wonder.

If this event gains support, there can be regular forums to follow up the space work and dream every month.

Weekly meetings, to chase the space opportunities, can be held in Second Life, where Mr Peart has built a space station.

If we will not imagine, we cannot begin to create.

“To build a better Tasmania, we need to get creative,” suggests Mr Peart.

We can also follow the example of the South Australian Government, by preparing a Tasmanian Space Capability Directory. ~

This directory can include all businesses, government agencies and educational institutions who have a service to offer to the global space industry.

Should we be launching our own Space Directory?

“Bring Musk to Tasmania!” Mr Peart suggests.
