Glenorchy City Council will hold their first Special Meeting with the new Council on Thursday 8 February at 3pm at Glenorchy’s Council Chambers.
Glenorchy City Council Mayor Kristie Johnston said all Aldermen had spent a day on Saturday 3 February undergoing an induction into local government and more specifically on Glenorchy City Council.
“This special meeting of Council will be their first official duties with the purpose of electing Aldermen to the various committees of Council and other bodies,” she said.
“The key appointments will be to the Glenorchy Planning Authority and the General Manager’s Performance Review Committee
“One of the key items we will be discussing is a recommendation that the Mayor is an automatic appointment to key strategic committees, including the General Manager’s Performance Review Committee, and that all appointments to committees are based on merit. We will also be considering a recommendation that Deputy Mayor Matt Stevenson and Alderman Peter Bull are appointed to the audit panel as both have very relevant experience.
“We will also discuss my appointment as Mayor and two other Aldermen to the Hobart Glenorchy Public Transit Corridor Steering Committee. At this stage, these are all discussion points for the Special Meeting and I am looking forward to robust and healthy discussion.
The committees that will have Aldermen appointed to them on Thursday are:
• Glenorchy Planning Authority
• General Manager’s Performance Review Committee
• Audit Panel
• Glenorchy Emergency Management Committee
• Glenorchy CBD Revitalisation Project Steering Committee
• Wellington Park Management Trust
• Hobart Glenorchy Public Transit Corridor Steering Committee
