The architect of the Hodgman Government’s strategy pulls the pin
Departure follows the loss of a senior minister and the head of DPAC
Consequences of Pembroke result still being felt
The departure of the author of the Hodgman’s Government entire playbook highlights the internal division within the Liberal Party.
Labor campaign spokesperson Sarah Lovell said the fact the Premier’s Chief of Staff has announced in the middle of an election campaign that he’s quitting is a sign of massive instability.
“Everyone in Tasmanian politics knows the Premier’s Chief of Staff has oversight of absolutely everything across the Hodgman Government,” Ms Lovell said.
“For Mr Stansfield to be on the way out the door is a sign there’s enormous internal division within the Liberals.
“Was the Premier given an ultimatum to remove the architect of his government’s entire strategy?
“Has Mr Stansfield decided to jump from a sinking ship?
“Speculation was rife following the Liberals’ disastrous campaign in Pembroke that it was going to claim a high-profile casualty.
“Is Mr Stansfield’s departure linked with that result?
“We’ve now got a situation where the person calling the shots for the Liberals won’t be there as soon as the campaign is finished.
“It’s more evidence the Liberals are only interested in clinging to power, not governing for all Tasmanians.”
