Liberals vote down Labor’s important, wide-ranging donation reforms
Corrections Minister makes astounding claim that donations not an important issue for Tasmanians
Tasmanians want and deserve to know who is funding political parties
The Liberal Government has voted against greater transparency in political donations.
Shadow Attorney General Lara Giddings said despite reforms taking place right across the country, the Liberals have rejected Labor’s sensible call for state based disclosure laws.
Shockingly the Minister for Justice, Elise Archer stated: “It is not an important issue to Tasmanians.”
“Labor would beg to differ – we will take our policy to the election and implement it when in government,” Ms Giddings said.
“Tasmanians do want to know who has donated to political parties before they go to the ballot box.
“The Liberals have confirmed they are content for the status quo to remain making them the most secretive and evasive government in the entire country.
“Tasmanians are now asking what the Liberals have got to hide.”
