Liberals’ Own-Goal …
Dear Editor,
So now the Liberals are describing their thumping defeat in the Pembroke MLC by – election as a “victory” ?
Like in AFL, there is no second prize in elections, yet the Liberal State President has claimed that they achieved their campaign objectives by driving down the vote for Doug Chipman below that of the Liberals’ James Walker.
What he failed to mention, was that the negative age attacks on Mr Chipman delivered a big Liberal loss in the seat, where Vanessa Goodwin previously achieved 51% of the primary vote compared to James Walker’s lowly 25% this time around.
The personal age attack on Mr Chipman, the respected Mayor of Clarence and long serving Member of the Liberal Party, drove hordes of voters straight towards Labor, who should be thanking Will Hodgman for the “own goal”.
This is how you “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory”.
