Sydney Anglican Archbishop Glenn Davies has confirmed the Anglican Diocese of Sydney donated $1 million to the Coalition for Marriage.

Speaking at the church’s 51st synod yesterday, Davies said he made “no apology” for giving church money to the “No” campaign, arguing that “the consequences of removing gender from the marriage construct will have irreparable consequences for our society, for our freedom of speech, our freedom of conscience and freedom of religion”. Davies said it was his church’s responsibility “to uphold the gift of marriage as God has designed it”, presumably in the spirit of the church’s founder, notorious monogamist Henry VIII …
