Government should adopt Labor’s community solar hub initiative
Trial would help bring down power costs for low-income households
The strong financial performance of TasNetworks should encourage the Government to adopt Labor’s positive energy policies to create jobs and reduce the cost of living.
Shadow Energy Minister Scott Bacon said the time is right for the Government to implement a community solar hub program.
“Labor has a policy to install solar panels and battery storage for up to 100 low-income community houses to help ease the pressure on bills,” Mr Bacon said.
“Given TasNetworks’ positive result, there’s no reason why the Government should adopt the policy immediately and begin work.
“The policy would put downward pressure on power bills for households involved in the hub.
“The trial would be a great opportunity for TasNetworks to examine how a larger scheme could benefit the state.”
