Following a national recruitment campaign SAC CEO, Joe Bugden, has appointed Kath Melbourne as Salamanca Arts Centre’s Creative Producer, Arts & Public Programs.

SAC CEO, Joe Bugden said, “Salamanca Arts Centre is ready to launch a new era and new ways of using the buildings and our other resources to support artists and engage with our audiences. In selecting our new Creative Producer I was so impressed, not only with Kath’s clear commitment to her work so far, but with the passion, respect and imagination that I know she will invest in Salamanca Arts Centre and the way she will support all the artists we invite to work with us.”

Kath Melbourne is an Australian arts executive who has led multi art festivals such as Melbourne Fringe, innovative government initiatives such as ArtStart and Jump mentoring, and has produced and toured large scale dance, circus and theatre productions in Australia, Asia and Europe, most recently as the Executive Producer of powerhouse, multi award winning physical theatre company Legs On The Wall.

Kath’s broad career has encompassed performance making, dance, circus, public and interdisciplinary art, music, Indigenous arts and visual art, as well as roles in Federal, Local and State governments.

She has worked with several well-respected organisations such as Melbourne Fringe, Griffin Theatre Company, Performing Lines, The Australia Council for the Arts and Platform Youth Theatre.

As a producer working with dancers and theatre artists Kath has supported well-respected makers such as Josh Bond, Charlotte Haywood, Martin Del Amo, Sue Healy and Branch Nebula, and she has had the great satisfaction and joy of being a champion for their development and sustainability as artists.

Kath is also a big supporter of young and emerging creatives, whom she has assisted throughout her career with mentoring, workshops and structured support programs; especially via her role as Program Director, ArtStart at The Australia Council for the Arts. She’s worked in Aboriginal communities, outback towns and off the side of twenty story buildings. She cherishes art that is vibrant, accessible, multilayered and memorable.

Kath holds an Honors Degree in Communications (Theatre Media) from Charles Sturt University, and reviews work for Art Hub Australia. She lives in Sandford, Tasmania.
