Clarence Mayor and independent candidate for Pembroke Doug Chipman has accused his Liberal opponent of blatant dishonesty in selectively quoting from an ABC Radio interview the future of TasWater.
Mr Chipman said the Liberal campaign in Pembroke had quickly degenerated into the State Government’s spin and misrepresentation of the facts concerning Taswater.
“In a media release, just 10 words from my interview on ABC Radio were used in an attempt convey the impression that I accepted that the Liberal’s takeover would bring cheaper water and sewerage prices,” Mr Chipman said.
“What I did say was that the Government intended to keep prices down until the next election, but in the long-term, Tasmanians, would pay more.
The complete sentence is on the following link: http://www.abc.net.au/radio/hobart/programs/drive/chipman/9014498 and written in full here: “What the government’s intending to do is lower the price for this election and their own State election next year but in the long-term, Tasmanians will pay more because it is essential that we’re able to have sustainable water and sewerage prices.”
It is disappointing that the Liberal campaign has not focussed on the real issues facing the Eastern Shore. We need good access to health services, especially for our aged and infirm residents, we need good schools so that our children can get jobs when they leave school, and we need to fix traffic problems approaching the Tasman Bridge and at the Mornington Roundabout.” Mr Chipman said.
