HOBBIENALE
TWO WEEKS TO GO
MUSIC ANNOUNCED
MORE ARTISTS ANNOUNCED
FULL CALENDAR ONLINE
We couldn’t be more excited about how the first HOBIENNALE is coming together. With artists, curators and art lovers from across Australia and New Zealand joining together in just two weeks for 10 days of exhibitions, music, performances, artist talks and parties.
Since our first program announcement in September we have added more artists to the program and HOBIENNALE is now set to share the work of over 100 artists with Tasmanian and visiting audiences.
The entire festival is free and will take place across the greater Hobart region, sharing the love between the CBD and the suburbs. Festival sites include a disused 1950s cinema, a giant gothic sandstone building known as Domain House, an underground war time battery and a soon to be demolished electrical wholesale store.
Some of the projects we are really looking forward to are Kauri Hawkins’ work imagining the lives of Mauri road workers sent to Port Arthur for revolting, MOANA’s midnight seance, Christopher Uluputu’s nature karaoke, Olivia Koh’s re-writing and re-enacting of classical plays with Rihanna as their key character and Frontyard’s participatory publication work, where audience members contribute to the creation of a book over the duration of the festival.
HOBIENNALE’s musical line-up features a diverse array of local and interstate musicians, programmed to respond to the exhibitions they will perform alongside. Laura Hunt and Chris V Lopa will hack into the devices of audience members to create a responsive electronic late night set, Ben Yardley and Aaron Cuthbert will woo audiences with their ambient drone overlooking the site where Joseph Conrad’s ship the Otago was scuttled, Hazy Daze will play live vinyl aboard the rather unattractive but very endearing vessel, The Spirit of Hobart, and a huge group of Tassie acts will perform in an old sepulchre.
The biggest achievement of HOBIENNALE has been to bring a huge community of artist-run initiatives and arts organisations together in the one place. HOBIENNALE aims to celebrate the significant impact of artist-run initiatives and early career artists on our contemporary art landscape, to support inclusive and diverse arts practices and to forge links between music, arts and writing.
An image pack has been included with this release and we included the full music line-up for HOBIENNALE below.
