• Audit contains 25 recommendations but is kept secret
• Transparency from Rockliff needed to restore confidence
• Secrecy is what led to current woes at training provider
Tasmanians deserve to know the status of the independent audit of TasTAFE.
Shadow Minister for Youth, Skills and Training Josh Willie said it was not good enough for the audit’s findings to remain a closely guarded secret.
“How can Tasmanians have any faith in the audit of TasTAFE if the findings are kept secret?” Mr Willie said.
“A lack of transparency and a culture of secrecy is how TasTAFE ended up in this mess.
“The Integrity Commission highlighted nepotism and a misuse of taxpayer funds and the allegations seriously damaged the TasTAFE brand.
“There are 25 recommendations from the first three months of the audit and Tasmanians deserve to know what they are.
“The Government has a duty to support and defend TasTAFE’s role as a high-quality training provider.
“Now is a critical time and the Minister needs to act with transparency to restore confidence in TasTAFE.”
