Jeremy Rockliff ignoring racing’s current challenges
Top trainer on the verge of relocating
Racing Minister Jeremy Rockliff has his head in the sand if he believes his announcement today is what the industry is looking for.
Shadow Racing Minister Scott Bacon said racing in Tasmania is facing enormous challenges.
“The Minister has made his announcement in a climate of huge uncertainty for the industry,” Mr Bacon.
“Tasmania’s leading trainer publicly saying* that he is on the verge of leaving the state should sound alarm bells for the Government.
“Scott Brunton’s departure would leave a gigantic hole in Tasmania’s racing industry.
“How can the Minister put out a statement on racing, his first for the year I believe, and not mention the ongoing problems at the Elwick track?
“The increase in stakes goes only a fraction of the way to restoring the cut imposed on the industry in 2015.
“It’s time Jeremy Rockliff took racing seriously and explained what his plan is to address the huge challenges facing the industry.”
