Premier should have moved failed Child Protection Minister aside
Litany of mistakes over three-and-a-half-years again ignored
Petrusma’s survival a political decision
Premier Will Hodgman has missed a major opportunity to shift failed Child Protection Minister Jacquie Petrusma out of his Cabinet in today’s under-whelming Liberal Government reshuffle.
Shadow Child Safety Minister Josh Willie said after three-and-a-half years of mistake after mistake in the critical child protection area on Mrs Petrusma’s watch, the Premier was today presented with a real opportunity to place a competent Minister at the helm – but failed.
“The frontline of Tasmania’s crucial child protection area does not have the resources to ensure our most vulnerable kids are being given the best protection,” Mr Willie said.
“That is the bottom line for a Minister who is not up to the job and has failed in this portfolio area.
“Over more than three years, there has been a sequence of unacceptable failures.
“Tasmanians know that Mrs Petrusma has presided over that ever growing list of mistakes and scandals.
“Mr Hodgman knows that also, but with six months until the next state election, he has clearly made a decision based on her electoral survival rather than what is best for the complex and demanding portfolio.”
