 Hodgman refuses to reign in Ministers and back bench as untruths repeated
 Liberal Members continue to say sex education will change when they know that is not true
 Ferguson incapable of providing vital funding for LGBTI support services
Premier Will Hodgman is refusing to reign in members of his government who continue to peddle alarming, hurtful and damaging mistruths as the marriage equality postal survey continues.
Deputy Labor Leader Michelle O’Byrne said both Hodgman Government Ministers and back benchers had continued to repeat patently untrue and misleading claims that sex education in schools would be radically changed if same sex marriage is allowed, contradicting their own colleague the Education Minister’s denials on the issue.
“Today in Parliament we saw a very unedifying spectacle with members of the government saying things they know are patently untrue,” Ms O’Byrne said
“When you are a Member of Parliament it carries with it a level of responsibility and that is to speak with a level of knowledge, a level of authority and with truthfulness.
“The commentary we have heard today from Braddon MP Joan Rylah around same sex marriage was not only starkly untrue but vicious and hurtful .
“This is not about a matter of opinion, this is not about a matter of personal view, this is about members of the Hodgman government stating untruths as matters of fact.”
Ms O’Byrne said the Premier also needed to step in and provide additional funding to LGBTI support services which are asking for additional resources as they experienced a spike in demand while the marriage equality postal survey continued.
“The Health Minister’s views of marriage equality are very well known and it’s clear his ideological beliefs are standing in the way of him providing this funding because he has done nothing.
“If the Health Minister simply can’t deal with this, the Premier needs to do the right thing, step in and provide additional resources as the Premier of Victoria, for instance, has.”
