Australian motorsport legend Allan Moffat will join an unprecedented collection of million-dollar race cars at the landmark Baskerville Historics this weekend.
The 2017 Historics will feature a brand new racetrack following the remarkable Baskerville Foundation campaign which raised almost $1 million to completely re-seal and restore the iconic raceway track to its former glory.
Baskerville Historics Chairman Mike Ellis said this year’s event was set to break records, both on the track and in attendance.
“With the growing popularity of historic racing and the newly resurfaced track ready for action we are expecting to see more than 5000 attendees over the weekend,” Mr Ellis said.
“After an intensive four-year fundraising effort, and countless hours spent completing vital track upgrades, the 2017 Baskerville Historics is the perfect opportunity for the Tasmanian motorsport community to look back and enjoy the fruits of their labour.
“The community support we have received over the past few years has been astounding and through the generosity of many we have successfully secured the future of motorsport in southern Tasmania.”
Headling the 2017 event will be motorsport icons Allan Moffat and John Harvey with their Rothmans VL commodore, known for claiming victory in the opening round of the inaugural World Touring Car Championship at Monza in 1987.
Joining Moffat, Harvey and their prized commodore, will be a handpicked selection of legendary Australian motor vehicles, including a $4 million Porsche RSR and Peter Brock’s 2003 24 hour Bathurst winning 427 Monaro.
In what will be an impressive display of power, six-time Targa Tasmania winner Jason White, will also be driving a Mclaren M8f set to be the largest capacity circuit racing car ever to appear at Baskerville.
Featuring a record 200 car entries, 60 bike entries and 60 separate events, the Baskerville Historics will take place on 22-24 September 2017, with qualifying on Friday followed by two-days of actionpacked racing
