The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra will spend a day working side by side with members of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra during the TSO Big Rehearsal this Saturday August 26th. An annual event, the TSO Big Rehearsal provides the ultimate orchestral experience for talented young musicians of the TYO to team up with a TSO player for a full day of rehearsal in the TSO’s Hobart base, Federation Concert Hall.
The TSO Big Rehearsal will involve over 90 musicians from both orchestras, under the baton of renowned international conductor Andrew Gourlay, in Hobart to conduct the TSO concert ‘Gomyo + Bruch’, September 1.
TSO Managing Director Nicholas Heyward said, “I’m delighted we’re hosting the TYO again for the TSO Big Rehearsal. It’s just great to see young Tasmanian musicians working together with the TSO and I hope everyone has a great day.”
Repertoire to be rehearsed has been specifically selected for the maximum participation of
all TYO members, and will include works by Hindemith, Prokofiev, Berlioz and Shostakovich. 12 year-old piano student Sheng-Yuan Lynch will participate as a soloist in the all-day workshop which runs for 10am to 4pm, with friends and families joining at 3pm to hear the results.
Andrew Gourlay conducts the TSO in ‘Gomyo + Bruch’, featuring French-Canadian virtuoso violinist Karen Gomyo, September 1 at Federation Concert Hall.
