The Hodgman Liberal Government is the strongest supporter of Tasmania’s salmon industry and the 5200 jobs it supports, most in regional Tasmania.
We support the sustainable growth of the industry which is why we have developed a draft Sustainable Industry Growth Plan for the Salmon Industry to provide a blue print for the future, surety about the location of future fish farms with “grow zones and “no grow zones’’ and the creation of more jobs.
The Government welcomes feedback on our plan, including Huon Aquaculture’s suggestion today to host an international symposium on Salmon Farming in Tasmania, in collaboration with the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies. This is a suggestion that the Government strongly supports.
The Sustainable Industry Growth Plan is available for public comment until September 8 and we welcome community feedback on the Plan which can be accessed at www.dpipwe.tas.gov.au/salmonplan.
