In an exciting new opportunity for Tasmania, Jetstar has announced it will operate direct services between Hobart and Adelaide three times a week commencing on 14 November 2017.

Hobart Airport Interim CEO Matt Cocker said Hobart Airport welcomed the move which is set to drive tourism and economic growth in Tasmania and opens up access to Australia’s fourth largest capital city.

“The opening of direct access to Adelaide, including international visitors connecting directly through Adelaide, is another exciting step in the transformation of Tasmania’s busiest gateway,” Mr Cocker said.

“The new direct link to Adelaide is expected to attract more than 40,000 passengers per year, creating potential new business opportunities as well as reducing travel time for Tasmanians.

“Jetstar will operate direct flights to Adelaide departing from Hobart Airport three times a week from November.” Mr Cocker said current flight durations to and from Adelaide range from just over four hours and up to six hours flying via Melbourne or Sydney.

“This new direct route will cut the travelling time for visitors and business travellers to 1 hour 55 minutes,” he said. “The new path has the potential to grow tourism visitation to both states and allow easier access for business travellers and those visiting friends and relatives. “Hobart Airport would like to congratulate Jetstar, Adelaide Airport, Tourism Tasmania and the South Australian Tourism Commission on securing this direct air link.”

Hobart Airport has just experienced its busiest year ever with over 2.4 million passengers travelling through the airport over the past 12 months.
