World-renowned musician and Yolngu man Dr G. Yunupingu has died in Darwin aged 46.

The highest-selling Aboriginal artist in history, Dr Yunupingu’s music and unique singing voice catapulted him to international stardom; his albums sold more than half a million copies worldwide, and he performed for Queen Elizabeth II and President Barack Obama. Dr Yunupingu sung in Yolngu, his first language, and remained a resident of Arnhem Land’s Galiwin’ku community throughout his life, working to improve the lives of remote Indigenous young people through the G. Yunupingu Foundation .
