Senator for Tasmania, Catryna Bilyk, said she was pleased that the Turnbull Government has finally come to Palliative Care Tasmania’s aid after subjecting them to a year of uncertainty about their future.
“Greg Hunt’s announcement of $1.5 million funding for Palliative Care Tasmania over three years comes after 10 months of the organisation worrying about whether they can survive,” Senator Bilyk said.
“The Turnbull Government knew for months that Palliative Care Tasmania was in danger of closing their doors and they kept them waiting.
“Labor’s 2016 election commitment of $2.3 million over three years would have given Palliative Care Tasmania immediate relief and the ability to continue their excellent work providing community education and professional development around palliative care, death, dying, grief and bereavement.
“I have been fighting for continued funding for Palliative Care Tasmania since July last year.
“This belated commitment from the Turnbull Government is certainly welcome, but it is unfortunate that dying Tasmanians have had to wait so long for it.”
