 TAFE system is struggling under the Hodgman Government and Minister Rockliff
 Minister’s hands-off approach leads to lack of oversight
 Only Labor has a plan to fix Tasmania’s skills and training system
A damning Integrity Commission report released today has exposed Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff’s lack of oversight of TasTAFE and the state’s skills and training system.
Shadow Skills and Training Minister Josh Willie said the Minister’s hands-off approach had contributed to a sorry state of affairs engulfing the senior management of TasTAFE exposed in the Integrity Commission investigation.
“Minister Rockliff has been so hands-off that the management of our TAFE system has become embroiled in a shameful situation which now threatens to tarnish its reputation,” Mr Willie said.
“The Minister needs to be up front with Tasmanians and tell them what he knew of this situation, when he knew and what steps did he take to ensure the fees Tasmanian students pay were being used appropriately in the TAFE system.
“The Integrity Commission investigation is damning of this government’s handling of our skills and training system and highlights the plain fact that the Hodgman Government has been completely hands off for the past three years.
“It will take a re-elected majority Labor Government to get our TAFE system back on track.
“Labor has a sensible plan to overhaul Tasmania’s skills, training and education system to provide clear pathways for the next generation of Tasmanians and, importantly, include business and workforce groups in planning to create jobs.
“A generation of Tasmanians are leaving our skills and training system without being job ready. Labor will ensure that quality skills provide a pathway to employment.’
