The Shooters and Fishers Party Tasmania has responded with outrage to Tassal’s announcement today that they intend to breach the biomass cap in Macquarie Harbour for a whopping eight months.
“All of Tasmania should be outraged”, says Ken Orr, Vice Chair of the Shooters and Fishers Party Tasmania.
Tassal seems to have ignored the EPA since September last year, and now the EPA are saying they will do “Nothing”, if Tassal ignores their biomass cap for another eight months..
“This will put more pressure on an already damaged harbour, increasing the biosecurity risk from diseased fish”, Ken Orr says.
“Tassal seem to know something we don’t know—–
The biomass cap for the harbour ?
Where is the transparency”?
Shooters and Fishers Tasmania are calling on the EPA to release details on the new biomass cap for Macquarie Harbour immediately, so the public can have their say.
Anyone who fishes on the West Coast should be concerned about the dire conditions some farm fish are being grown in in Macquarie Harbour, and what this could mean for potential diseases spreading to wild fish populations.
“The situation is already critical. It is outrages for the EPA to sit on their hands while Tassal breaks the law, putting other salmon companies and our aquatic environment at significant risk”. Mr Orr says.
