International event comes to Tasmania’s North East
Terrific boost for region’s economy
Exciting time for state’s mountain bike community
Tasmania is set to host the international mountain biking spotlight when the Enduro World Series (EWS) lands in Derby for Round 2 of competition this weekend.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Derby to showcase the trail network, beauty and hospitality on offer in the state’s North East,” Shadow Tourism Minister Scott Bacon said.
“Hundreds of athletes will be participating in this world-class event, as the EWS format allows both professional and amateur mountain bikers to compete on the same trails at the same time.
“A number of new trails have been developed and the mountain biking community is looking forward to seeing the world’s best, as well as a handful of locals, take on the challenges these trails will offer.
“This will be an exciting event for both participants and spectators alike.”
Mr Bacon also said the success of Derby securing such a high profile event highlights the economic opportunities attached to the sport.
“Mountain Biking is part of the new economy and it is important that the state government does not jeopardise this opportunity by pushing forward with unnecessary and unwanted forestry legislation that will impact on Derby’s economic prospects.
“I wish all involved the best of luck for a spectacular weekend of racing.”
