COMEDY TRIO TRIPOD TO JOIN TSO FOR ORIGINAL PROGRAM ‘THIS GAMING LIFE’ SEPTEMBER 12, 2017
Melbourne based comedy trio Tripod will join the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra for one performance only of their symphonic program This Gaming Life, September 12, 2017 at Federation Concert Hall in Hobart.
Described as an ‘all-original symphonic love letter to gaming’, This Gaming Life was originally commissioned for the MSO in collaboration with BAFTA winning games composer Austin Wintory, and opened at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall to rave reviews.
Since their breakthrough onto the Melbourne comedy scene in the mid-1990’s, comedy trio Tripod have firmly established their reputation for juggling comedy, music and narrative in endless exhilarating combinations which has seen successful Edinburgh Festival appearances, numerous television appearances and musical collaborations with artists including Gotye, Missy Higgins and Eddie Perfect.
Tripod continue to apply an intense level of craft in both comedy and music, and combine both disciplines in a rich and satisfying way – an ability that has cemented them as a much loved cultural fixture in Australia, and regulars of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
The TSO’s performance with Tripod represents another innovative collaboration for the orchestra, which in 2017 alone has seen sold out concerts this week (April 11 and 12) with vocal star Kate Miller-Heidke and an October 24 concert with ARIA award-winning and multi-platinum artist Megan Washington.
The TSO will play an integral role in this year’s Dark Mofo with a collaboration with Victorian Opera The Sleeping Beauty June 10 and 11 at The Theatre Royal, in which 27 puppets bring to life Charles Perrault’s gothic fairy-tale; a performance with Norwegian experimental collective Ulver June 17 (sold-out); and a specially curated program Silence June 20 at Federation Concert Hall, described as a ‘meditation on sound and silence, culminating in a rare performance of John Cage’s 4’33”’.
