Today we wrote to the Minister of Forests Guy Barnett requesting a meeting to discuss our concerns with remediation work on Mutual Road in CC104B.

The Forest Practices Authority has asked Forestry Tasmania to do some drainage work on the section of Mutual Road that is within the coupe.

According to the Forests Practices Code, under section B3, FT should be required to resurface the road along with the insertion of culverts, and the restoration of table drains.

FPA protocols show that FT should have been fined in excess of $145,000 for its failure to bring the road up to FPC standard before harvesting began more than a year ago. No fine has been imposed nor do we believe any fine is contemplated.

Meanwhile FT continue to harvest while it diddles about doing very little to remedy the situation which the FPC desribes as…

“causing or likely to cause significant environmental damage to soil and water values”

We are hopeful of a meeting because of the serious nature of the situation as it stands.
