The Greens have hosted a roundtable with representatives of a number of multicultural communities who are concerned about the Government watering down protections against racist hate speech.

Greens Leader Senator Richard Di Natale and Greens Justice Spokesperson Senator Nick McKim listened to concerns about the government trying to weaken Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act.

“Representatives from across multicultural Australia and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were very clear – we must not make it easier to be racist,” Senator McKim said.

“We have listened and we will continue to stand up against the government’s divisive and unnecessary attacks on multicultural Australia.”

“The Greens will continue the fight to save the Racial Discrimination Act.”
