AMA Tasmanian President Dr Stuart Day has congratulated Bryan Green on an outstanding career in Tasmanian politics.

“Mr Green has served the Tasmanian people very well, in particular those of his Braddon electorate since 1998,” said Dr Day.

“As opposition leader, Mr Green has always challenged the Government to improve and make decisions in the best interests of Tasmania’s health system.

“On behalf of AMA Tasmania, I would like to congratulate Mr Green on his political career and wish him well in the future.”

Dr Day also welcomed Rebecca White as the new leader of the Tasmanian Labor Party.

“Now, more than ever in Tasmania’s history, we need bipartisan support towards health funding and health reform to ensure Tasmania can reduce our high levels of chronic disease, smoking rates, fight the causes of obesity, tackle public hospital waiting lists and cut the time patients spent in emergency departments,” said Dr Day.

“Rebecca White has held the position of Shadow Health Minister for a number of years and we welcome someone with such an understanding of our health system and the issues we are facing, heading the opposition.

“This is a fresh opportunity for the new leader and the Labor Party to work on health issues and AMA Tasmania encourages the ALP to take the long term view and ensure health is properly funded.”
