Positive announcement on medicinal cannabis
Hodgman Government has failed to do anything over 3 years
Patients deserve legal access to the medication they need
Shadow Attorney-General Lara Giddings has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement on the importation of medicinal cannabis.
“This is a significant step forward and a win for those people, including hundreds of Tasmanians, who have fought for change,” Ms Giddings said.
“It’s taken a new Federal Health Minister to get finally practical action nationally. Meanwhile the Hodgman Government has done nothing to make a difference in patients’ lives in Tasmania.
“It’s been a very frustrating three years for those Tasmanians who have been fighting for access to medicinal cannabis.
“Hopefully now we can see common-sense access allowed for Australians suffering in pain, although we are still to understand the details of what medicinal cannabis products will be available and how they will assist patients.
“We know the relief that medicinal cannabis can provide to people in chronic pain or the incredible effect it can have on people experiencing seizures.
“Patients know the positives effects and it is these people who will be celebrating, but only when they can legally access the medication they require.”
