Minister should be demanding Birmingham hand over Tasmania’s share
Hodgman Government incapable of standing up to Canberra
Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff has missed yet another golden opportunity to secure Tasmania’s fair share of Federal Gonski money.
Shadow Education Minister Michelle O’Byrne said with Federal Education Minister Simon Birmingham visiting the state, Mr Rockliff should be fighting to secure the money that was originally promised to Tasmanian schools.
“Instead they have engaged in an embarrassing mutual backslapping exercise,” Ms O’Byrne said.
“The $100 million we are owed under the Gonski reforms would make a massive difference in Tasmanian schools and yet for the past three years the Liberals have done nothing to secure this funding.
“We need a government that is prepared to stand up, not suck up, to Canberra.”
