From Rock and Roll to Rockabilly, RNB to Jazz and Country to Folk – the Home of Hope at Meander will be humming and swaying to an array of musicality this Saturday. The Hope Community Music Day is a free event aimed at bringing the Meander and wider community together to enjoy some family fun and music.
It is also an opportunity for the Home of Hope team to express their heartfelt thanks to the community for its support in the establishment of the centre, which will soon offer a residential drug rehabilitation program to Tasmanian women and their children.
Home of Hope executive director Tanya Cavanagh said she was overwhelmed and humbled by the support from the community.
“This community has one of the biggest hearts and an enormous capacity of acceptance and genuine concern for others, and to actually get in up to their elbows and make a difference for someone to have a better life,” she said.
“The projects and events they have been organising, the working bees they have arranged and participated in, the mowing of the lawns, the weeding, the supply of cakes, biscuits, tools, equipment and the continual popping in to see what they can do really says it all.
“It will be this community and its massive heart that will be powerful in showing these broken women and their children exactly what community looks like, that you may have come from tough beginnings but that absolutely does not define your future.”
The free Hope Community Music Day begins from 11am on site (at the former Meander Primary School) and includes a BBQ, jumping castle and face painting, delicious desserts, and a line-up of bands and musicians including Soul Revival, Two Roads, Garry Smith, Jerry Eilander and Debra Gleeson.
All are welcome.

What is Home of Hope?
Teen Challenge Tasmania’s Home of Hope will provide single women, pregnant women, and women with children suffering from addictions and life controlling issues a safe and stable environment.
We offer help to women and their children through our faith based program, to meet the needs of the whole person; not only dealing with the addiction, but also rebuilding their self image, work ethic, spiritual awareness and relationships.
Taking a holistic approach to the recovery of alcohol and other drug issues, women are nurtured in all areas of their lives. Their family structure will be rebuilt, allowing them to return to society stronger and equipped to succeed as a family.
In this process, the student is taught indispensable lessons of strong work ethics, team work, patience, diligence, determination, communication, positive character qualities and motivation, to name a few.
