Another 600 full-time jobs lost last month
Massive shift towards part-time work
Liberal Government failing to tackle the big challenges in the economy
Full-time jobs in Tasmania continue to disappear as the Liberal Government refuses to address a massive trend towards part-time work.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said it’s reached crisis point.
“Another 600 full-time jobs were lost last month,” Mr Bacon said.
“Meaningful, permanent jobs are being replaced in the economy by part-time work.
“More than four and a half thousand full-time jobs have disappeared since April last year and the Government has completely failed to address the trend.
“Part-time work is no replacement for a full-time job. We need to create employment that Tasmanians can rely on to raise a family.
“The Liberals are ignoring reality by patting themselves on the back because part-time work is up.
“After almost three years in government, the Liberals are still too afraid to front up to the challenges facing the state.
“Labor’s has a series of positive policies that would help create full-time work across the state, in areas like mining, agriculture and advanced manufacturing.
“We stand ready to work constructively on ways to reverse the alarming trend away from full-time employment.”
