Craft & Quilt Fair welcomes to the program, twin talents Maricor and Maricar – talented illustrators and Embroiderers with a distinct style that is bold and irreverent. They have taken needle and thread as their tools of choice, and have brought their fresh and funky designs to share. Each of their textile handcrafted tactile graphics have been showcased in Myer, Vogue Japan and West Elm to name a few, and they are now sharing their expertise for all levels at the fair. You might also like to pull up a chair and stitch a little with them in a mini-workshop.
Studio Art Quilters’ (SAQA) Silver exhibition provides a tribute to the group’s 25th anniversary. 35 quilts from their members in the USA, Canada and Italy show a diverse range of techniques using the common theme of silver. From industrial use to decoration, technology, photography and medicine, silver’s unique properties of strength, malleability, reflectivity and conductivity make it an irreplaceable force in the global market. In addition to its physical properties silver is recognized as a symbol of love, insurance and commitment for twenty-five years. Shine on!
Paws & Whiskers Challenge is a purrfffect mini textile art challenge for animal lovers to provide a small portrait of their pets for the 2016 Australasian Quilt Convention (AQC). Entrants were encouraged to explore embroidery, appliqué, surface design, photo transfer or printing.
The Craft & Quilt Fair is set to showcase ‘Inner Journeys’ – an introspective new instalment which showcases South Australian textile artists, the SAlt group. The work is the artists’ unique and highly personal responses to the five themes; creative, physical, emotional, spiritual and the journey of discovery!
Craft & Quilt Fair welcomes Collage to Stitch Textile Art, a new exhibition which is the work of four South Australian textile artists and the culmination of one years’ exploration of collage as a tool for developing ideas, which originated from a workshop with textile artist Carolyn Sullivan. The themes chosen and the approaches taken reflect personal passions and revolve around nature. Flowers, trees and gardens were frequent topics for reflection by artists Maxine Fry, Ruth Galpin, Suzanne Gummow and Sandra Obst. See the collages and the developing textile designs along with the final textile artworks.
Workshops are a highlight of the Craft & Quilt Fair, with lots of sessions happening each day. Seminar style talks, demonstrations and floor talks as well as hands-on ‘make and take’ classes provide visitors with the knowledge and skills to get started on a new creative project, and learn from the many experts. Learn to sew, embroider, make textile art, scrapbook and more.
