The Three Capes Track is one of the world’s top nature based tourism experiences, and I am very pleased to announce tenders have been awarded that will complete Stage Three of the award-winning walk.
Tasmanian company MTN Trails has been awarded a tender to undertake track construction in line with our Buy Local Policy. A tender has also been awarded to Marriner Contractors who have committed to relocate to Tasmania and recruit local staff during construction.
Osborne Aviation Services, Rotor-Lift Aviation, Helicopter Resources and Tasmanian Helicopters have been awarded tenders to provide helicopter services as required.
This is great news for Tasmanian jobs, the economy, and the tourism sector, and validates our commitment to open up our national parks to appropriate and sensitive development.
The finished product will confirm the Three Capes Track experience as the new jewel in the crown of Tasmania’s stunning wilderness walks, which is why the Government committed $4 million in the 2016-17 budget to allow its completion. This was in addition to a $3.8 million commitment from the Federal Government.
Stage three will see an upgrade to the Cape Raoul and Shipstern lookout tracks that will complement the existing walking experience operating on the eastern side of the peninsula or be an amazing day walk in its own right, and provide walkers with the opportunity to experience all Three Capes. The Cape Raoul and Shipstern lookout tracks will be upgraded to a class 3 dry boot standard track consistent with the existing Three Capes experience and will be available for any walker with a valid PWS visitor pass.
Work will begin next month and I look forward to its completion.
