SFP Party Tasmania calls on the Minister for health, M. Ferguson and the government to immediately stop the rot in rural primary health. Rural Tasmania deserves so much more that what you and your government have delivered to date.
Without exception the rural community is extremely disappointed, frustrated and shocked by the decision of Primary Health Tasmania and seek you and your government to intervene immediately and apply appropriate funding to rural health. It is not only the decision to close these centre’s that has caused so much community angst but also the manner in which this was implemented which by any standard can only be considered appalling.
These centres play a vital role in the mental/physical and emotional health of rural communities which are so often left behind in the name of progress and savings. We all remember the Ouse District Hospital and others around the State closing with promises made by you and your Government of increased, improved and diverse medical services tailored to meet community needs and expectations.
Why have you abandoned your previous commitment to rural Tasmania?
Not only have the community concerns not been addressed but little has been said of the talented , dedicated staff who have contributed so much and been treated so poorly. Many of whom discovered just before Christmas that they were now unemployed. What becomes of them or are they simply considered to be collateral damage in this debacle?
