The Hodgman Liberal Government’s fire truck replacement program will see 25 new fire trucks be rolled out to brigades across Tasmania in the next month.
The Government is committed to keeping Tasmania as safe as possible from the threat of bushfires, which is why $16.5 million has been committed to the replacement program that will see 95 new fire trucks join the fleet over the next four years.
All the new trucks are being designed and manufactured in Tasmania by the Tasmania Fire Service’s Engineering Services Division, which is supporting local jobs in line with our Buy Local Policy.
The 25 new trucks currently being rolled out will be joined by another 27 before the end of the financial year, ensuring the community is given the highest level of protection from the bushfire threat as well as increasing safety for firefighters in emergency situations.
The new appliances are fitted with state-of-the-art crew safety systems for protection in the event of crew entrapment and burn-over, including a crew protection water deluge system, radiant heat shields, water level indicators, and the ability to carry up to 585 litres of water.
Anyone who serves the Tasmania Fire Service deserves the highest praise, and the Government’s fire truck replacement program will ensure they have the tools needed to keep both themselves and the community as safe as possible.
