Tasmania’s peak farming organisation has urged Federal Parliament to reach a prompt consensus on the rate for the proposed “backpacker tax”.
“The Senate has made its decision, it is now up to our lower house representatives to put politics aside for the good of the Australian agricultural community,’’ TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said.
“The reality is that Tasmanian agriculture needs backpackers and this process has already taken far too long. Our farmers need a decision so that they can be assured that they will have the workforce that they need into the future.”
