Tasmanian contemporary photography – Constructed landscapes

“My mind is always in desire of purity and absoluteness, something that cannot and does not
exist. Truth and deception lies at the heart of my work.

The ‘paperscapes’ conjure feelings of wonder upon closer inspection but reveal oddities in
their detail. Similar to being awoken from a dream, the mind inhabits a place that can only
exist in your mind, only to be taken out of it and thrown back into reality. “

Rosie Hastie

Rosie Hastie focuses on theories of photography and how its method defines what
it is. She uses sculpture and illusive photography to manipulate the viewer and
challenge their perception of truth in photography. She derives ideas from places
she has visited to construct utopian ‘paperscapes’, which can only be inhabited by
the imagination, and never actually exist.

Rosie lives and works in Hobart and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree
at the Tasmanian School of Art, University of Tasmania in June 2008, where she
was awarded the Nelson Prize for the highest scoring graduate. In 2011 she
Graduated from a Master in Fine art and Design course, also at the University of
Tasmania. Since Graduating she has exhibited in local group and solo exhibitions in
the Hobart area.

The exhibition will be opened on Friday 25 November at 6.00pm.
