Today, across Tasmania, Mental Health Week officially kicks off for 2016. From King Island to Clarence and beyond there are Tasmanians working hard to raise awareness and get the message out that ‘Mental Health Begins with Me.’
At over 30 public events across the state people are making their personal promise to improve their mental health and learn more about how they can build resilience and support at home and in their communities.
“We are exceptionally proud of the effort that Tasmanians have gone to spread the message of Mental Health Week this year. Not only are there so many informative and exciting events for people to attend, workplaces and schools have also really got involved with mental health week this year. We were able to send out over 70 workplace kits for employers to hold their own Mental Health Week events and get the conversation started around workplace mental health and wellbeing,” said Mental Health Council of Tasmania CEO, Connie Digolis.
Mental Health Week is part of a national mental health promotion campaign that is held in October each year to engage people from the community in discussions on how to manage their own mental health.
Tomorrow we will be going along to two fantastic and free events happening in Launceston. The Mental Health Week expo will be held from 10.30am until 4.00pm at the LINC in Launceston offering over 50 interactive stalls including art work, music and more. In the evening MHCT will attend the Lifting the Lid on Mental Health forum at the Tramsheds at 7.00pm. The forum features special guest panellist Dr Mark Cross from ABC’s series Changing Minds and Lisa Alexander, Head Coach of the Australian Diamonds Netball Team.
