“It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark… and we’re wearing sunglasses. We’re on a mission from God. Bring me four fried chickens and a Coke.”
On Sunday the 30th of October, the Longley International Hotel will be hosting one of the hottest gigs of the year – The Blues Brothers Revival Band!
“The Blues Brothers Revival Band” first formed in 1984 in Townsville, Queensland. Original bookings were local, however by the 90’s tour destinations had included every state in Australia followed by New Zealand destinations. The biggest audience was 11000 people at “Expo” in Brisbane 1988. This makes The Blues Brothers Revival one of the first, most successful and longest running concept bands in Australia. It first hit Hobart in 1985 commencing a 2 year on and off residency at the Famous Hadley’s Hotel.
Appearances on television shows as Countdown, 60 Minutes, Rock Arena, Simon Townsend Wonder World, Midday Show and Hey Hey it’s Saturday kept the energy flowing, with tours constant for 13 years.
Since the 1980’s many things have changed and after taking a break from touring between 1997 and 2004, the original Jake (Styne Ashton) and a great new Elwood (Darren Sangwell) joined forces with renewed passion to deliver a show with all the old crowd favourites plus some new fun tunes. Blues Brothers can party anywhere, from sweat drenched pub gigs to a family oriented Carols by Candlelight or a high flying Co-operate event, appealing to all ages from ages 8 to 80.
The 10 piece Band over the years has enticed an amazing ensemble of musicians. Players from the bands behind some of Australia’s biggest names (Jimmy Barnes, Marcia Hines, Brian Cadd, Glen Shorrock, Cold Chisel, Moving Pictures, Mental as Anything, Ice House, Damien Leith and international star Leo Sayer) have all played their part to keep the show the professional standard it is. We are proud to say today’s line up consists of some of Tasmania’s finest musicians, bringing the same quality and standard to which fans are accustomed.
The show consists of 2 sets totalling over 2 hours of non-stop crowd orientated fun that features songs from the Blues Brothers movie. Shake your Tailfeather; Sweet Home Chicago; Everybody needs somebody to love and Minnie the Moocher plus RnB classics Hold on I’m coming, Shout and many more, plus an appearance by The “Fat Penguin” to bring us the songs Respect and Think, complete with dance routines and lines from the movie.
It’s now over 30 years since Blues Brothers Revival first bought out the iconic Pork Pie hats and Ray Ban sunnies for Jake and Elwood to rock out while running’ from the law in their trusty “Blues Mobile”.
So…If you have forgotten what it’s like to have fun, grab your hat n sunnies and take a trip back to Chicago to shake your tailfeathers… with the show band of Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues….
