• Small Business Council and Goanna Energy release new gas report
• Government put business at extreme risk with power station sale
• Groom was prepared to see gas contracts end

Labor Leader Bryan Green has welcomed the comprehensive report into the Tasmanian Gas Market released today (Mon).

“I congratulate Goanna Energy and Tasmania’s Small Business Council on a forensic look at Tasmania’s gas market,” Mr Green said.

“Labor will study the report in detail and use it to inform our public commentary on the gas market.

“We have been saying for a long time that the Government’s decision to decommission and sell the Tamar Valley Power Station would have a devastating effect on business in Tasmania.

“This report and the evidence given to the energy crisis inquiry show the Government’s decision to sell the power station was extremely reckless.

“To not consult with business, large or small, over the sale of the power station and the future of gas contracts was not only disrespectful but negligent.

“By not consulting, Matthew Groom treated some of Tasmania’s most important employers with contempt.

“The Government has still not given businesses any guarantees over the future of gas contracts in Tasmania with Hydro unwilling to commit to a long-term deal.”
