Burning down the Aboriginal bark hut at the Tarremah Steiner school …

The way it was …

PLEASE SHARE. To the person or persons responsible for burning down the Aboriginal bark hut at the Tarremah Steiner school in Huntingfield last night (30 August).

Your act of senseless vandalism has destroyed the class 3 building project of which many hours of effort was invested by myself the children, teachers and Aboriginal community members.

While you left your bottles of alcohol, rubbish and destruction, you were not witness to the tears and sadness experienced by the students, including my daughter, who were preparing to showcase their Aboriginal camp to parents and friends through a fireside ceremony this Friday night.

For whatever reason you have chosen to invest the gift of life in such a way where you seek enjoyment in destroying the efforts and creations of others.

While it’s possible your act of desecration is either opportunistic, or racially motivated, I am comforted that a class of 9 year olds hold far more empathy, understanding and compassion than any of you will ever have, and their pathway forward will be one of understanding intently the richness and value of cultural diversity and the importance of Aboriginal Tasmania and history.

If anyone has any information regarding the possible perpetrators of this act. Please let me know.
