I recently spoke to Elton John tribute artist Greg Andrew. Greg told me that his Elton John show was ‘born’ in Tasmania so it is fitting he return with’ the whole show’ that he has being touring with to acclaim for some time.
Greg is no stranger to Tasmania in either a personal or professional capacity.
For many years in the late nineties Greg did a piano bar show at the Casino in Hobart and Launceston.
He loves it here and has much praise for the venues he will be performing, which include the Theatre Royal and the Princess Theatre. On a personal front he and his family have enjoyed in the past an extended drive around the state.
It was fans who witnessed his piano bar shows at the casinos that suggested to him that he had a very similar facial structure to Elton John, not to mention an uncanny similarity in voice. Greg took note, pardon the pun and eight years ago put a show together and so began his Elton John tribute.
Greg has always been a fan of Elton’s music and goes to great lengths to give an authentic look to his interpretation. He is kitted in the latest outfits as well as the outrageous glasses from the 70s to the more sublime ones Elton wears today which are sourced from London.
So popular is Greg’s act that he is known and performs all over the world including Singapore, India and Norway. Some people even believe he is the real Elton. He wonders sometimes what Elton thinks when they are performing in the same vicinity and now with Facebook the messages and alerts he receives that are intended for the real Elton!
You can see Greg Andrew in the Elton John Experience on the following Tassie dates:
8th September Burnie Arts and Function Centre
9th September Princess Theatre, Launceston
10th September Theatre Royal, Hobart
