A new Federal Government. What next for climate change action? Come to this free workshop to contribute your ideas:
Finding a new way forward on climate change.
Climate Action Hobart is convening a workshop to look at the current political landscape and where we can most usefully put our climate action energies. It’s clear that there will be little joy from the new national government – where can we find the field of effective action? The free workshop is on Sept 4, 12.45 – 5 pm in Sustainable Living Tasmania, level 1, 71 Murray St, Hobart.
Claire O’Halloran from Climate Action Network Australia will give us the national picture and local climate activists (including you!) will workshop the way forward.

is a new group has started up in Tasmania, with an early focus on working with Launceston Council toward divestment. The group is currently assembling a case to put to the Launceston City Council, requesting they amend their current investment policy to give preference to banks which do not invest in fossil fuels.

Tastex Community Solar Project
Tastex aims to convert their factory to solar power and save an estimated $7,000 per year on electricity bills. They need to raise $36,000 to do this. This is Tassie’s first ever community funded solar project! Tastex is a not-for-profit knit mill, based in Glenorchy, Tasmania providing meaningful employment and training to people with intellectual disabilities, and are self-funded through our product sales. Please consider supporting this wonderful project. Visit https://chuffed.org/project/tastex for more information.
Divest Hobart
We met recently with Hobart Council Director of Finance to discuss our petition (1500 signatures!) to have Hobart Council divest from fossil fuels by moving Council’s cash reserves away from the big four banks. Since the meeting we’ve provided additional support material. The Finance Committee of Council were scheduled to receive the Director’s response to the petition on 16th August. Unfortunately this has been delayed and we are now hoping for progress in September. We’ll keep you updated.
