I recently spoke to Skye Lockwood, one half of Adelaide-based pop group Auguste, (the other half being sister and best friend Beth Keough) about their new self- penned single ‘Kingdom’.
Skye finds writing in collaboration with Beth a very different and understandably longer, (because both participants need to agree) process than her individual writing.
The complete artistic package, as well as writing and performing, Skye is also a true musician having taken up the guitar at age 18.
Auguste’s last single ‘Slow Motion’ enjoyed great success with’ up to 200,000 soundcloud streams’ and no doubt ‘Kingdom’ will enjoy just as much if not more success. ‘Kingdom’ is a song that annunciates the importance of defending one’s personal space from unwelcome invaders. With its line ‘this corner is my kingdom’ is a strong statement on keeping that personal space just that!
Accompanying the girl’s song in the video is a vision interpreted by dancers Jess Stratton and Aiden Kane Munn. The story of the video sees the girls as every bit royal rulers observing the dancers involved in a fight for the kingdom.
Skye tells me she has never been to Tasmania but would like to bring Auguste’s music to our state ‘as soon as possible’.
.
The duo’s name has gone through some changes before they settled on ‘Auguste’ which was chosen because it was the birthday of someone close to them whom they lost. They added the ‘e’, as Skye says to ‘shake it up’.
When she isn’t performing as part of ‘Auguste’, Skye works in music marketing helping other bands on their musical journey.
