Submissions on the January fires – due this Friday
The January fires have altered some of our wilderness landscapes forever. The Senate Standing Committee on Environment is asking for submissions.
From their own advice “A submission may be as short or as long as you like. It may contain facts, opinions, arguments or recommendations. It may cover all the points in the terms of reference or only some of them, depending on what interests you.”
The reference points are mostly around World Heritage but there is opportunity under Section f to include other important areas.
Submissions close this Friday 15th April.
They do not need to be lengthy or reference scientific papers. Many people with knowledge of the areas would have an opinion on b and d and f. Please make a submission if you can. Thank you.
The response to, and lessons learnt from, recent fires in remote Tasmanian wilderness affecting the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, with particular reference to:
a. the impact of global warming on fire frequency and magnitude;
b. the availability and provisions of financial, human and mechanical resources;
c. the adequacy of fire assessment and modelling capacity;
d. Australia’s obligations as State Party to the World Heritage Convention;
e. world best practice in remote area fire management; and
f. any related matter.
The closing date for submissions is 15 April 2016.
