The Tasmanian Greens are pleased to announce that Penelope Ann as the Greens Legislative Council candidate for the Elwick in the upcoming Upper House election.
Party Convenor Kay McFarlane said Penelope Ann has an impressive CV, with experience in Education, the Arts, Small Business, Public Service and Tourism.
“Penelope has ideas and vision and will be a passionate advocate for the residents of Elwick.” Ms McFarlane said.
“Working cooperatively with Greens MPs, Cassy O’Connor, Rosalie Woodruff and Andrea Dawkins in the Lower House, she will present a fresh, alternative voice in the Legislative Council.”
“I am appalled at the State Government’s mismanagement of hydro -electricity. If elected, I will work to ensure that all future State legislation considers the impact of climate change.
“I am committed to the provision of energy efficiency upgrades to low income household and also want increased subsidies for families purchasing solar panels.
All Tasmanians need reliable, affordable, renewable power.” Penelope Ann said.
Her other main concerns for Elwick are the proliferation of poker machines in pubs and clubs that cost low income households almost $2M per month in total.
She is also concerned about the need for better resourced schools and an improved public transport system. She is eager to see a Light Rail train service from Granton to Hobart CBD.
Penelope Ann said: “The Legislative Council has a huge responsibility to ensure that all legislation creates a fairer, safer and more prosperous community. I would be honoured to be elected as the Member for Elwick.”
