On a hilltop on Tasmania’s East Coast dancers move between giant abandoned structures and logging machinery as audience members look out to Maria Island and Spring Bay and hear young Tasmanian’s memories, hopes and fears about their natural environment.
Launceston’s Stompin Youth Dance Company will present Panorama, one of their most ambitious works to date at the Spring Bay Mill in Triabunna from April 8-10, 2016.
A dramatic, vast and politically charged venue of choice provides the backdrop for 35 young dancers aged between 10 and 30 from Launceston and Triabunna to perform an immersive and spectacular work that uses dance, story and sound to present a sensitive examination of our environmental history.
Created in collaboration between Tasmanian young people, local community and professional artists, Panorama encourages audience members to reflect on loss, industry, wilderness, community and Tasmania’s natural environment.
Panorama places the voices of the Triabunna community and Tasmania’s young people into the Spring Bay Mill Site, humanising the political and offering an alternative perspective from voices rarely heard.
The work features choreography and sound composition by award winning artist Alisdair Macindoe, lighting design by Matthew Adey, sound design by Tasmania’s Dylan Sheridan, costume design by Bones Sylvan and Direction by Stompin’s Artistic Director Emma Porteus.
Panorama will be Emma Porteus’s last show as Stompin’s Artistic Director.
